i am just curious about the alternatives that people have to iv. i came up with ZERO. there couldnt be a greater intersection of interests and goals between potential eb-gcfilers and iv. other organizations are burdened with a much larger agenda with ours being a footnote mostly. & there are ZERO ACTIVE advocates for our cause, just a few journalists here & there along with editorial boards of papers like wsj & nyt that have little influence in this debate. teh corporate lobbyists do ask for more ebgc's and h1's but their timeframe to achieve it is very flexible - they can wait for the political tide to turn. how many iv guys are comfortable with such a timescale to achieve this?if we look at the anti's/bigots,as abhorrent as their goals are there's something to be learnt from the way they tap their supporters energy & $$. they have paid fulltime staff devoted entirely to churnin out 'academic' papers blaming everything on immigrants & they dont care if they have to abuse statistics or rewrite history on the way bcos no one cares or have time to question that. they have 'thinktanks' to 'think' exclusively about vilifying immigrants. they have tv hosts with audiences in the 100s of 1000s to demagogue relentlessly, moving/setting the parameters of the debate thats going to make things much much worse. so what are the ppl on the sidelines doing? anyone?

Correct, there are problems with the online status with TSC.
My AP status say pending since 10/04/2007, I got my AP documents from attorney this afternoon.Still the status says pending.

Gurus,
Need your valuable advice on this serious issue. Involved in shoplifting case, got arrested and plead guilty. Served the community service, and paid fine. Got the �Court Disposition Document� which states that I am all clear. My status is I-485 pending and have EAD, AP documents.
1. Is it safe to travel to India and come back on AP?
2. What are the possible chances that visa officer may not let me into the USA?
3. Do I need to carry any letters from my criminal attorney explaining the situation?
4. Any one in similar situation, please update me on this?
5. Please list of documents I need to carry during my travel

There are favorable indications from the industry that they will get increased H1Bs. There is hence a strong belief among many lawyers that the H1B lobby will provide some relief. But we need to meet lawmakers so that they don't forget about the Green cards.
If you live in NY state, please contact bottlemani or myself. We need to organize ourselves before meeting the lawmakers. We will also have to take the trouble to drive to their offices. If we don't do this, all these pessimistic predictions will come true. Believe me, meeting the folks in the offices of the lawmakers makes a huge difference.

It is sad to see that only few people have signed up for state chapters. there are very few on your NY thread even though we have several members from NYC and NY state. We all need to change our attitude and help each other in this common cause. If we all think that someone/others will do it for us, then nobody will do anything and we will all continue to wait for our greencards for the next several years. IV is providing everyone an opportuity and tools to help and work. IV core is working overtime to get it done. We cannot succeed if we do not get support from each and every member.

I was current in 2008 and then got RFE for me and for my spouse in 2008. We provided the evidence then. The status changed from RFE to RFE Review on Aug-1-2010.

It's just bad luck to get that kind of CBP officer. It's upto you to ignore this or escalate it. In my opinion behaviour of CBP officer was wrong.

While some members might have jumped too hard on the whole thing, Some stuff goes unanswered.
1) Why has not USINPAC endorsed IV all this while on their website? Does not USINPAC know any thing about IV?
2) While I understand the importance of fund raisers for politicians, why USINPAC has not involved US citizens of American origin to contribute to the cause? What about grass roots efforts?
3) I dont have the exact statistics, but I am positive that every one out of 2/3 Indians living in the US is plagued by this problem of GC. How come Orgs like USINPAC are not pushing this by all means?
Forget the media mishap and the outrage of some members, if USINPAC really considers Immigration of Highly skilled Indians, they should be doing some thing. I personally am neither defending the outrage of some members nor appreciating it, but most of the Indian American citizen community does not want to be in sync with the plight of Indians immigrating to US.There are various reasons. Most important one as I have seen, Many in the Indian American citizen / Indian Permanent Resident community run consulting companies and they would hate to see these guys slip away from their hands by getting GC's. Fcuk, its like the damn door closes right behind you. I am positive most of those shops will come down to earth if Indian citzens start getting their GC's. May be its time, the Indian American Citizens/ Indian PR's ask themselves, what they really want. I have been to some Indian regional association meetings and the big guys or folks from my generation ahead would love to see their kids get married to an Indian or would love to see their kids grow with the rich heritage, but damn it, they just want it to happen with out doing any thing.

Yes, the Indian Express misquoted Robinderi or may be it was a misrepresentation, we would never know but the good thing is that he has acknowledged the discrepancy. That is where it ends. Robinder has been a very highly regarded ananlyst and a commentator of indo-us relationship. We needs friends with him and not make enemies. It is a different thing that he is associated with USINPAC and we do not agree with their agenda, approach or the way they misrepresent themselves to be the representatives of Indo community in USA. We have about 2.5 million Indians in USA of which about more than half a million are stuck in this green card mess. Any organization that claims to be a representative of Indian community should have this Green Card reform as a very top priority in their agenda, but it was extremely disappointing for the people fighting for this cause when they approached some of these organizations who could provide just lip service and press releases from their chambers and project that they are on the top of the issue and working hard to get the work done. IV has filled this void for a true grass roots level organization with a huge membership base which is truely global,not just Indian and working in an extremely organzied fashion. I am sure that many of the the organizations envy the way we have built the membership base ( we are not a paid membership org) and have individuals roll up their sleeves, go to the fields across the country and work for this noble cause unlike others who are limited to doing press releases, photo opportunities and advertizing to promote them selves.
At the end, time will tell if Immigration Voice would be successful in the agenda it has enbarked on, but what ever the final result be, our efforts would be analyzed for years to come by the ethnic, minority and national groups as to how to unleash the power of the Internet to build and run a grass root level oranization. Whether we like it or not...this is a reality. I have had a neighbor where both the husband wife was working. They brought their parents every year... because it was cheaper than Day Care.

I was in the same situation recently for the State of Iowa. My attorney called up the DMV and explained the situation. The DMV informed him that they would need the receipt notice from the USCIS. The license will be issued for the lesser period of the time range (if any) mentioned in the Receipt Notice that the USCIS expects to take to decide the petition. Upon receipt of the approval, the person will need to go the DMV again with the I797A form and get a final license.
Fortunately, I did not get to jump through the hoops as I decided to spend some hard earned money and got my extension approved by premium processing. Anybody else who has done something similar please post.

If I had my green card today, I would surely be making at least 15K more in my salary per annum repeat per annum.
If not all, many of you are in the similar situation.
My $200 contribution is just 1.33% of that lost opportunity per annum. If I take into consideration the 4 years of wait, it comes to 0.33%.
Almost anybody who is in US for 5 years on H1B can buy an nice little home. (Bay area is bit more cruel).
Last year I could have bought a home for say 500K. It would have surely appreciated by 50K. But because of the uncertainty of GC, I can not. That's a loss of opportunity of 50K.
My $200 contribution is just 0.4% of that another lost opportunity.
Now you know why I support this effort.
Most of you and your friends are in a situation similar as mine.
I urge you to become aware, make them aware and support this effort, which has a potential to minimize those lost financial opportunities, with your wallet.

There are 1000+ members on these forums. If everyone contributes 200$, we will have $200K. That way, the core volunteers can concentrate on getting the work done by working with QGA/lawmakers etc instead of worrying about our survival for the next month.
If we can get double this membership (each member gets one more member on board), our contributions per head can come down to just $100.
Then nviren's contributions as compared to his lost opportunities will get reduced by 50% ($200 to $100) ! So his contribution compared to the lost opportunity in terms of annual increase if he changes his job is now down from 0.33% to 0.17%.On the other hand, if we each get 5 more members, his contribution($200 to $40)/opportunity percentage is down to 0.065%....
What we can do as a group now is
a) Contribute our part
b) Get as many friends as we can to become members of IV.

Shop lifting has to be the most cheapest crime our indians commit when they land here.. They think the stores dont have anything and try to put it in their pocket and go away..
This is not an accident. there is no justification for what this guy has done. but maybe he can be given a benefit of the doubt that he did a stupid thing, in the rush of blood. I dunno if he inadvertently tried to put something in his pocket , forgot and left the store...if that is the case the guy deserves a break...
if not i cant fathom the fact that a sane person who took so much effort to get here thro F1 or H1 or what not, had this cheap idea... :eek::eek::eek::eek:
I read in one of the posts that they forgot to bill that item and could have been caught. Most cases if u are buying so many items and miss one they will leave u...

Anyway, My lawyer used the PERM. right after i received my Labor (may 2006) I had to renew my H1b which took 6 months (regular processing). After i received my renewal I sent my I-140 application. I didn't even bother to use the premium processing for my i140 because the i485 was not current that time, instead it way way back as a EB3. anyway, you know the rest of the story.....

Texas is a great state...No hassle. My first H1-B is expiring in Feb 2008 and they renewed my driving licence for 5 more years till my birth day in 2013.

These USINPAC folks are shameless creatures who will take credit for the sun shining tomorrow morning. Lets send this guy Sanjay Puri, Robinder Sachdev and his fraudsters team a dictionary so that he knows how to spell IMMIGRATION correctly even if he has some malicious thoughts and actions in his mind. All they are good at is to do photo oppotunities and do these frauds where they claim to have worked or be working on an issue. I can also do the fund raisers and get photos taken. But there is where it stops with USINPAC. The politicians walk away with the money and turn their back on them and these guys start looking for the next politician to do a fund raiser for and get photo opportunity. How much more foolish can this get?
I agree with you 100%. I think Anti-Immigrants like NumbersUSA and Tom Tancredo is better than USINPAC. For Anti-immigrants atleast we know where they stand and we know what to expect from them. usinpac is the worst kind of disease for the community where they can trick you anytime and you will not even know when they are stabbing you at your back. They just want to do photo-ops and claim the credit for the things they didn't even know. I live in VA and most people in Indian community in northern VA know about the inside story of these scamster. Initially a few lawmakers got the impression that usinpac represent the Indian American community, maybe that is what the con-artist at this org conveyed to a few lawmakers. Now everybody in DC area, including the lawmakers, know the truth about this group. A journalist friend in MD told me that even press and reporters know about this totally useless org called usinpac.
It is one thing if they do something and then claim credit for doing it. The problem is first of all they claim to represent entire Indian American community; on top of that they do not do anything about the any issue including green card issue. But when they see something happening they will try to take ownership of anything moving and will try to make a show that things are moving because of them. Just as in this case, all the members of IV sent flowers and these guys are releasing press release to tell to the world that they are the once doing this drive. Such press release from them is extremely damaging as the basic intent of the ENTIRE flower campaign was o draw media attention. In this case usinpac did not spare all the people spending days and nights to coordinate, Nixtor and English_august and thousands of people who sent flowers. How can someone stoop so low? Now they want to get media attention and that is why they have sneaked in this press release. IV core must come clean on this and clearly renounce these consistent immature acts of these con-artists. This org with extremely bad reputation and we must stay as far away from them as possible.
I agree with you 100%. I think Anti-Immigrants like NumbersUSA and Tom Tancredo is better than USINPAC. For Anti-immigrants atleast we know where they stand and we know what to expect from them. usinpac is the worst kind of disease for the community where they can trick you anytime and you will not even know when they are stabbing you at your back. They just want to do photo-ops and claim the credit for the things they didn't even know. I live in VA and most people in Indian community in northern VA know about the inside story of these scamster.
