hey friends,
I saw that Logiclife mentioned that the head will be from michigan. I am from michigan and a lot of my buddies also visit this site regularly. Let us know if we can make a difference. Please let us know what can we do to help our cause here. I am ready to drive, meet, talk to any one I can to push things here. I dont know how much of an impact that would be, but even a little can help.
thanks
Please pm me with any suggestions or ideas.

Hello cagedcactus,

Thank you for offering to actively participate and connect with key lawmakers in MI. As janilsal suggested, it would be a very good idea to start MI State Chapter. This would help your friends and other IV members in the State of Michigan to organize meetings with the key lawmakers. Here is the link to State chapters:

http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=17

Also, please encourage your friends to register (in case they have not yet registered), and request them to invite their friends to IV. Here is a tool to send an invite to people who may not already know about IV.

http://immigrationvoice.org/index.php?option=com_iv_invite_friends&Itemid=55

This will help increase IV members in different states and would increase the constituents to educate and convince the lawmakers.

Thanks,
WaldenPond

as i said earlier it gets a bit much
but the thread does not mention a country
merely talks of leaving- and that's free will aint it!
now individuals will discuss it based on their own experience, and fortunately or unfortunately the majority here belong to one country, it really should not offend you, although once again i repeat, i do not think it is ideal.
being so sensitive is easy here, bet you have much thicker skin at work in in your neighborhood. please show tolerance in your comments, that's all i asked. you can point out the same think politely, or gently refer to the irrelevance of the discussion which is clear anyway to most people. not a lot of contributors to the thread you may note....

oh and by the way- when threads like this are shut down, people scream free speech. everyone will dislike something when there are 10,000 people. please chill out. live and let live.

as for the plenty of people that won't come here- sounds to me like they forgot what the real problem is. just my humble opinion, but anyone that won't help with fighting this crisis because of petty trite reasons like "some threads are so country centric" would have been of no stinking use here anyway but to whine and complain. as it is barely 200-300 people bother with anything concrete.

you on the other hand friend, i happily assume are better than that.
please please ignore this silly thread and get on with what's important.
i'm going to...won't see me posting again.

Anyone from Cincinnati, Dayton, Indianapolis area who wants to plan the trip together. Flights from Dayton to BWI is for $157 roundtrip.

Love the spirit of this post. Done some research and giving info, pushing us to do more than say yes - awesome, will start checking out details.

It would also be good, if we can have members posting in what way they can help out for the advocacy days - in this thread (not just in the form) - this way, many of us will be motivated and try out different options!

I am planning to file EAD/AP for my wife who is on H4 along with adjustment of status application. Will she continue on her H4 status till she gets EAD/AP?

There are 2 ways in which current H4 status changes to AOS Pending status:
1. By working on employment using EAD
2. The primary applicant loses H1-B status for ANY reason

Please check and verify details with your attorney/lawyer. This is NOT a legal advice.

Hello
If you are talking abt any amount useful to use in USA, you need RBI clearance to wire it here.
Wiring is the cheapest I believe.
You will also need a clearance from IT dept in india.

RBI may ask for a reason for taking money out, which you should be able to justify.

Good luck

And why do you think the White House was in touch with Immigration voice leaders and not with some corporate lawyers during the July 2nd fiasco if they did not recognize the strength and commitment of the skilled immigrant community and btw what makes you say 'july 2nd will never happen again.' what are you? God?
I smell a closeted Anti Immigrant here.....

you need to remember that you are not a us citizen and you have no rights, you're previleged to have a job here...you can campaign till the cows come home and you aren't going to get squat.
july 2nd was a mistake that uscis had to rectify....there were a lot of companies who had spent the money in preparing I-485 applications and then uscis would have to face a class action lawsuit. july 2nd will never happen again.

Start investing money in India.
r u IV Policeman? Can I see your badge?

Dear snehaledu, You raise a good point. Am I IV policeman? The answer is NO. Guess, it is the responsibility of all the members to police themselves. And I saw that it was not happening here, thus my question about the relevance of this thread.

I understood that IV is working on behalf of green card backlog applicants and the intended purpose of IV forums is to provide support for legislative effort. Please help me understand how this thread about $1 is Rs. 44 or whether $1 is Rs. 46, helping in achieving IV goals? I am just scratching my head in an attempt to figure that out. There are many other forums on the internet where you could discuss anything under the sun. There are many other forums where you could discuss everything about exchange rate variations. Why dont you go and discuss it over in those forums?

Also, we all should be considerate towards all other members of IV. It was my understanding that IV membership includes people from all over the world. It may be true that majority of IV members are from India. Should we as Indians show a bit of maturity and consideration towards members from other countries? Is that too much to ask? Say, if you come to these forums and for 2-3 days consecutively you see a discussion about conversion rate of Pakistani Rs. to $, how would you feel about it as that discussion will not be relevant for you? Intelligent people understand the signs and fools dont understand even if someone shouts in front of them. I guess there is no country in the world where its entire population is either all fools or all intelligent. The real question is which category do you belong? You dont have to answer that question; your behavior will speak for you.

I am very depressed! my lawyer who is doing my I-485 has advised that if she was to be concerned with her representing me, she would advise against me starting the company. basically, she said, USCIS can read this as an intent to leave the permanent employer for self employment. my business plan was to be in non-IT business. she said that if i am making enough money in the business, it will be hard to prove that i intend to continue in the job while having this business on the side...

well! best of luck to you guys! go on sharing your stories.

You really cannot ask for more EB3 numbers or 'treat EB-3 fairly'...Laws are made by the congress and they provided certain numbers to each country & category. USCIS has to follow these norms and apply those numbers and USCIS has followed the rule and have applied the allocatd numbers to EB-3. Problem is not that they are treating us differently or we are getting an unfair treatment. The problem we are facing is because we are just too many in number and the problem is Congress didn't make any laws to provide relief to people if one country or a category becomes hugely backlogged...unfortunately, the Last time they did any law for EB immigrats, it was in 1999 or 2000 when they brought AC21. Since then there has been huge surge in immigration but everytime anything immigration related legislation was brought in congress, it has been shot down..In my opinion we can get relief only if congress acts upon it, USCIS is working the way there were tld by the congress
Well said. I agree with most of you here.

This can be a move to ask for more numbers for EB3 and to be treated fairly. My EB2 friends with 2007 priority dates are hopeful to get it next year and here I am in EB3 with no hope. There is no reason to be hopeful if we go by last 3-4 years of data as to what happened with EB3,.
One guy here provided with some numbers and logic. If its true that there are many more in EB3 than in EB2, then we must ask for more numbers. Its pure nonsense that an EB2 waits for x years and Eb3 waits for 3x.
MOst importantly we must fight togheter for anything, but commonsense definitely tells some things which this greencard guy noted. As he says there is no reason to hope for anything in EB3 with spillover or anything. It will not spill into EB3. We must ask for fairness and at the same time push for removal of quotas for everyone.
There is no reason why EB2 get upset and if so, then we cant help. We cannot hold our GCs at hold to make you happy. Hope you agree.

Actually very true. I for one have held off on buying a gun (though my wife highly disapproves of guns) simply because I dont have a GC and dont want any hassles. Besides I live in Chicago which has a ban on guns. Ironic that the maximum killings and drive by shootings happen maybe 30-40 blocks from where I live but the city doesnt allow legal law-abiding residents to own guns.

It isn't an outright ban. Chicago doesn't allow concealed carry, and requires guns to be registered, but you can own guns. Yes, the process for legally owning a gun in Chicago I understand is very tedious (sad, I know), but not impossible. Much like NYC.

WASHINGTON - Senate leaders reached a deal Thursday on reviving a broad immigration bill that could provide millions of illegal immigrants a chance to become American citizens and said they'll try to pass it before Memorial Day.

The agreement brokered by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., and Minority Harry Reid, D-Nev., breaks a political stalemate that has lingered for weeks while immigrants and their supporters held rallies, boycotts and protests to push for action.

Key to the agreement is who will be negotiating a compromise with the House, which last December passed an enforcement-only bill that would subject the estimated 11 million to 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States to felony charges as well as deportation.

Frist said the Senate will send 14 Republicans and 12 Democrats to negotiate with the House, with seven of the Republicans coming from the Judiciary Committee and seven of the Democrats chosen by Reid.

Frist said a "considerable" number of amendments would be debated when the Senate begins debating the bill early next week.

It would be the most comprehensive rewrite of immigration laws since the so-called Simpson-Mazzoli bill some 20 years ago.

Reid acknowledged on the Senate floor Thursday morning that he "didn't get everything that I wanted" in the agreement, but said Frist didn't either. Reaching the agreement is "not easy with the political atmosphere," Reid said.

Reid had been taking some criticism for refusing to move forward on the bill after complaining that Republicans were trying to undermine it with amendments and insisting that Democrats be allowed to have a say in who serves on the conference committee.

Republicans, too, have had opposition from conservatives to the compromise proposal. These critics consider its path to citizenship provision for illegal immigrants and hundreds of thousands of future guest workers to be tantamount to "amnesty."

They've also had to contend with fallout from opposition to the House bill that triggered nationwide protests that drew hundreds of thousands in Los Angeles, Chicago and Dallas, and hundreds more in other cities and small communities.

Presidential and midyear politics have been a subtext to the immigration debate. Frist and Arizona Sen. John McCain (news (http://us.bc.yahoo.com/b?P=m2Mu586.I3oEETl1Q8LB5QD5P.66CkRjVskADpMk&T=1bhktcstd%2fX%3d1147360969%2fE%3d83018124%2fR%3d news%2fK%3d5%2fV%3d2.1%2fW%3d8%2fY%3dYAHOO%2fF%3d2 444784108%2fH%3dY2FjaGVoaW50PSJuZXdzIiBjb250ZW50PS JBbWVyaWNhbjtpdDtIb3VzZTtJdDtwb2xpdGljcztkZWJhdGU7 QnVzaW5lc3M7cmVmdXJsX3VzX2YzNjJfbWFpbF95YWhvb19jb2 0iIHJlZnVybD0icmVmdXJsX3VzX2YzNjJfbWFpbF95YWhvb19j b20iIHRvcGljcz0icmVmdXJsX3VzX2YzNjJfbWFpbF95YWhvb1 9jb20i%2fQ%3d-1%2fS%3d1%2fJ%3d5023BECE&U=13994266v%2fN%3dp7iUVc6.Irk-%2fC%3d395108.7908979.8803055.1414694%2fD%3dLREC%2 fB%3d3338499), bio (http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/capadv/bio/ap/ap_on_go_co/immigration/19003417/SIG=117abbj56/*http://yahoo.capwiz.com/y/bio/?id=192), voting record (http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/capadv/vote/ap/ap_on_go_co/immigration/19003417/SIG=11gvsboie/*http://yahoo.capwiz.com/y/bio/keyvotes/?id=192)), one of the architects of the legalization proposed, are speculated to be competing for the 2008 GOP presidential nomination.

The compromise bill the Senate will consider builds on legislation approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee 12-8, with six Republicans voting and all Democrats approving the measure.

That measure absorbed a bill drafted by McCain and Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (news (http://us.rd.yahoo.com/DailyNews/politics/news/ap/ap_on_go_co/immigration/19003417/*http://news.search.yahoo.com/search/news?fr=news-storylinks&p=%22Sen.%20Edward%20M.%20Kennedy%22&c=&n=20&yn=c&c=news&cs=nw), bio (http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/capadv/bio/ap/ap_on_go_co/immigration/19003417/SIG=117gklk9e/*http://yahoo.capwiz.com/y/bio/?id=297), voting record (http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/capadv/vote/ap/ap_on_go_co/immigration/19003417/SIG=11gbh3bl6/*http://yahoo.capwiz.com/y/bio/keyvotes/?id=297)), D-Mass., that called for allowing illegal immigrants to work toward becoming legal permanent residents.

President Bush (http://search.news.yahoo.com/search/news/?p=President+Bush) had helped accelerate progress on the bill after meeting with a bipartisan group of senators last month and stating clearer support for allowing illegal immigrants a path to citizenship.

"Business and labor, Democrats and Republicans, religious leaders and the American people strongly support our plan to strengthen borders, provide a path to earned citizenship for those undocumented workers who are here and put in place a realistic guest worker program for the future," Kennedy said.

Skilled, Legal Immigrants Tangled in Illegal Immigration Mess

The debate over what to do about the millions of illegal immigrants in this country has occupied much of the public mind share over the past year, including press coverage, demonstrations, and debate and legislation at all levels of government. Drowned out by all the noise over illegal immigration is an issue of critical importance to American industry and tens of thousands of hopeful would-be citizens: the legal immigration system for skilled workers is badly broken and in need of an overhaul.

Of the on-average 850,000 green cards doled out annually over the past decade, approximately 16% (140,000 / yr), are allocated to so-called skilled workers - nurses, engineers, medical researchers, and a variety of other professionals. They have at least a bachelors degree, typically in a technical discipline, and many have masters degrees or doctorates and significant experience in their fields. These workers pay taxes and health insurance, are educated and law-abiding, and they contribute to their communities. Most importantly, they help drive economic growth by supplying critical skills to US industry in an increasingly competitive global market.

Contrary to what some alarmists will have you believe, these workers are not stealing American jobs. They are brought to the US by American-owned companies who cant find sufficiently skilled US workers. The US Department of Labor (USDOL) requires the employer to prove that there are no suitably qualified US workers available before allowing the foreign worker to be hired. Skilled green card applicants are also not cheap labor. The employer is required by law to pay at least as much as they would pay a comparably qualified US worker. This wage is established by survey and audited by USDOL. Anti-immigration rhetoric simply does not hold up to scrutiny when compared with realities of the legal immigration process.

The green card process for skilled workers has traditionally taken 18-24 months. However, many current applicants are facing waits of 5 years or more due to bureaucratic bottlenecks at the Department of Labor, US Citizenship and Immigration Services, and even the FBI. Recent attempts to fix the legal green card process have become mired in politics over what to do about illegal immigrants. For example, a number of measures that would have helped US corporations sponsor legal green card applicants were included in the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act (CIRA) of 2006. However, after passing in the Senate last year, this bill ground to a halt in the House because it provided a path to citizenship for illegal aliens, a measure strongly opposed by many US Representatives.

Legal green card applicants are hopeful that Comprehensive Immigration Reform will be re-visited in 2007 and get a much warmer reception now that the US House of Representatives is controlled by the Democrats. Measures in the bill introduced last year would help to restore the green card process back to traditional 18-24 month wait times, allowing immigrants to get on with their lives and integrate fully with the US workforce in a timely fashion. Highly skilled, legal workers are good for the economy, good for our communities, and good for American industry in an increasingly competitive global economy. The Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill deserves the support of the American people in 2007.

Is it becoz they are looking for all current Labor petetions being not approved ? as current legislation says I140's pending or approved as of May 21 2007 continue in current system . Please advice.

Anyways, thanks RDB for your response.

But as USCIS is putting so much "efforts" in preadjudication 1000's of cases, can't they say whether we are preadjudicated or not? They Only worry about milking us by increasing visa fee, delaying processing time and all other means...
