According to the report, there are 100K to 150K applications pending to be processed (guessing PD is current and hence includes dependents) and 500k to 750k applications expected if PD becomes current. If we assume 2.1 dependents on an average, this comes to 1M - 1.5M applications if PD is current. So is the total 1.1M - 1.65M? Does that sound right?

Friends:
What I have done below is present a couple of races that are interesting to follow tomorrow from the immigration perspective. This list is not all inclusive and only includes the House races that have been listed on the Cook Political Report (www.cookpolitical.com) as competitive. I went through the list and compared that with the representatives on the "House Immigration Reform Caucus" as chaired by Rep. Tom Tancredo. Here are the results:
The 10 following races are considered as toss-ups.
J.D.Hayworth AZ-05 LOST
Marilyn Musgrave CO-04 WON
Geoff Davis KY-04 WON
Gil Gutknecht MN-01 [/B]LOST[/B]
Charlie Bass NH-02 LOST
John Sweeney NY-20 LOST
Charles Taylor NC-11 LOST
Jean Scmidt OH-02 POSS.WIN
Thelma Drake VA-02 WON
Barbara Cubin WY-AL TOO CLOSE TO CALL, leads by 822 votes
The following 6 races are considered lean republican
Rick Renzi AZ-01 WON
John Doolittle CA-04 WON
Brian Bilbray CA-50 WON
Hefley (OPEN SEAT) CO-05 (WON by another GOP (Lamborn))
Otter ID-01 (WON by another GOP (Sali))
Randy Kuhl NY-29 WON
The following 5 races are considered likely republican
Ric Keller FL-08 WON
Bilirakis (OPEN SEAT) FL-09 (WON by the son, another GOP Bilirakis)
Jeb Bradley NH-01 LOST
Robin Hayes NC-08 (TOO CLOSE TO CALL, Hayes leads bu 468 votes)
Pat Tiberi OH-12 WON
The following one race is considered lean democratic
Bob Beauprez (OPEN SEAT) CO-07 WON by DEMOCRAT
Bottom line: The current house immigration caucus boasts 104 members. Of which, 4 will be gone come January 2007. From the remaining, IF all the tossups were to go democratic, the list would come down to 90 members.
I will update the thread with the final results Nov. 7th.
Nov. 7th update: As seen above, from the original 104, the list is now down to 95 members. With the House majority in the Democratic hands, this loss in the caucus is likely to be magnified since they are now the minority in the minority.

Please start a poll and find out who is in favor of a law suit against USCIS and who is not.
I am in favor of to file a law suit against USCIS.

BTW, I want to use this opportunity to thank IV members virtual55, jkays94, and cpolisetti for setting this whole ball in motion.
It was their post on the forum (see http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showthread.php?t=453) pointing out Mitra Kalita's Q&A on the Wash Post site that set this whole ball rolling.
It is just one example of how every member can do his or her part to help us.
Keep the spirit up!
best,

Have a lottery kind of thing where people contributing $200 or more enter a draw & someone wins a car.
Here we can remind people again that all other money will go towards eliminating retrogression efforts or to charity.
So in everyway the contributions would be worthwhile.
Just a thought!
(saw a similar promotion from people collecting money for constructing temple)

I have applied for my H1b extension back in April......Have not heard anything yet........once I get my H1b approval, can I apply for H4 extension from inside the country?? (Is that even required if you are already in AOS pending status?)
No, it not required but maintaining H1/H4 status allows person to remain in USA and apply for appeal if, for some reason, I-485 is denied. Otherwise, person is out of status from the date I-485 was denied.
See above in Blue.
Please check and verify details with your attorney/lawyer. This is NOT a legal advice.

Simple answer is NO. The local offices do not have this authority. Just have to wait for the USCIS wheels to move along at their own pace before you can travel.
This is not correct. If one can prove that his/her family member is dying or just died, he/she can get an AP from local office immediately.

EB3 (I) have been hit hard there should be some effort to get the ball rolling, and I fail to understand why EB2 (I) should get offensive about this effort. EB2 is going to get what they get anyway, but EB3 guys might get somewhere if this kind of concentrated effort is made.
I beleive EB2 will not be affected by this effort, if we draw enough attention we all EBs will get our GC sooner than later.
My 2 Cents!

If point sysem is introduced the big losers are immigration lawyers as they cannot make money in multiple stages. So no wonder if they oppose. Of course there is some limitations but its sucess depends on rules and regulations. Also there is going to be a Cap and there is going to be a provision to prevent displacement of US workers as the worldwide demand is always here. But main advantage is it will bring down the work load of various agencies like DOL and INS also employers.
It will bring down the workload? Can you explain how? If anyone in the world is eligible to apply for the GC without sponsorship, the system will be flooded with applications, irrespective of whether they carry any merit or not. What makes you think that an organization that cannot process 140K applications per year can handle millions?
The point based system sounds great in theory, but cannot be implemented efficiently by the U.S. as long as it remains the most desired country for immigrants. It works for Canada, Australia and the U.K. because fewer people want to move there.

Guys
During 2000/01/02 around 300,000 Desis entered the country.
This is the reason for oversubscription........and FIFO is working out here.
EB2 will soon follow EB3. If you planning to change to EB2....you are inviting further delays.
Let us hang on to our EADs....this is equally well as GC....

When does the "Approval notice sent" status appear, it is about 7 days since I got the production ordered.
ok, so you got card prodcution ordered. then after 7 days, it changed to "notice sent". then, card came in mail. Is that what happened to you, gcseeker?

Try to respect others and feel sorry about their situation.
Try to respect people who are trying to 'buy' an MS degree for the purpose of greencard ? Instead of feeling sorry for their situation, you should feel sorry for the legit EB2 applicant who these guys screw up by taking this backdoor approach.

Premium depends on your age, duration of policy(10/20/30) and place of living if you you do not have any health problems. unless you disclose your age , no one can help you on your rate comparison.
hoping you don't mind sharing your secret!():D
Thx
I don't think Age of a Person fall's under some 'official secret Act' or something like that :p

Thought I'd offer an alternate view on the AC21 letters. I switched jobs after my I-485 had been pending 180 days, and my attorneys advised me to NOT send in an AC21 letter. They said, "Chances are, you will not get an RFE, and if you do, you can send in the AC21 letter at that time. If you do send in an AC21 letter, you will definitely get an RFE". These attorneys had always given me excellent advice in the past, so I have not submitted an AC21 letter.

Ask your lawyer, what happpens when previous employer revokes 140 petition. The answer will be, "As USCIS does not know that you ported off, they will send a NOID and we will respond to the NOID. If they send a denial by mistake, we will reopen your case using MTR"
